This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the processes, tools and techniques needed to develop ideas into meaningful business opportunities. Specific focus is paid to the analytical and data supported process of market research and understanding target audiences. This course covers the framework of technical skills needed to develop viable business opportunities for the creation or expansion of business ventures.

Course Description

Developing an interesting business idea is a complex and strategic process. This process of ‘ideation’ drives idea generation into an actionable business concept and opportunity through both formal and informal techniques. During the course learners are challenged to identify areas of opportunity to find and create business ideas that satisfy gaps in the marketplace. In order to facilitate a practical approach, the course will present key skill-sets in a series of lectures and workshops, and further utilise a mix of theoretical analysis and practice-focused teaching methods. The course further encompasses: creativity, finding and/or developing business ideas, identifying target markets and niches, building a business model and opportunity selection.
Objectives
  • Identify the 5-Step ideation process.
  • Discover the sources of information to obtain eBusiness ideas.
  • Analyze the market trends and find five eBusiness ideas.
  • Create a list of factors affecting the idea selection.
  • Utilize an idea selection method taught in class to select the most suitable eBusiness idea
  • Use results of a survey to estimate market acceptance

Target Audience

The targeted sector is an entrepreneur, B2C or B2B senior executive who wants to know how to come up with a good idea for an ebusiness. There is a need now to relook at how we do business online and how to approach it creatively.

This course will help you collect information to generate a good idea and then turn that idea into a viable business opportunity.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Minimum passed the equivalent of GCE ‘A’ levels or Workplace Literacy Level 5 and Workplace Numeracy Level 5.
  2. Able to operate laptop and mobile devices, e.g. tablet or smartphone.
  3. Able to listen, speak, read, and write English competently

Instructor

Pamela Lim

Founder 
Pamela Lim has more than 30 years' experience as an entrepreneur, professor and business trainer. She was the first Singaporean to achieve a NASDAQ-SGX listing (2001) as a pioneer in e-business.
Subsequently, she spent 10 years as a professor at Singapore Management University nurturing young entrepreneurs in crafting their businesses including their digital media and social media strategies. Dozens of her protégés have gone on to become some of the most successful entrepreneurs in Asia.
She has won countless awards including:
  • Singapore’s Top 10 Female entrepreneur in 1999 (finalist),
  • The Most Promising Female Entrepreneur in 2000 (winner) and
  • Netrepreneur of the Year in 2001 (winner).
Pamela has developed numerous private multimillion-dollar projects using the same social media strategies she teaches in the classroom. As a passionate educator, in 2014 she founded All Gifted, an online high school with thousands of students internationally.
